Radio 1 Big Weekend

Yannon Towers: Radio 1 Big Weekend

I’ve had to write a short blog about more things that there are to do at Yannon Towers because it seems that Teignmouth and the surrounding areas are slowly becoming ‘the place to be’.  Exeter especially is constantly evolving into a centre for culture and excitement.  The one big event that’s coming up is Radio 1 Big Weekend http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/e2f9rz.  I know a lot of people who have managed to secure tickets to this event.  I haven’t, but that’s because i’m way too old and boring to go to such fun things – give me a box set of Lovejoy or Poirot and a bag of Malteasers any day.. which I hasten to add you are more than welcome to do when you come to stay with Yannon Holidays.  We not only have the complete Lovejoy boxset but we have the entire collection of Miss Marple (Joan Hickson and the more modern ones) and Poirots as well.  There’s never a dull moment here, let me tell you!

Anyway, I digress.  The Radio 1 Big Weekend promises to be a massive gig with lots of popular artists in the amazing location of Powderham Castle http://www.powderham.co.uk/ which is a ‘fortified manor house situated in the parish and former manor of Powderham’.  It’s a massive old manor house/castle in the most amazing setting; with acres and acres of grounds that have been host to some spectacular events over the years.  Over the course of the Radio 1 Big Weekend, you can look forward to seeing acts such as Biffy Clyro, Bastille, Chase and Status, Coldplay, Jake Bugg, Mumford & Sons, Tom Odel, The 1975, Years & Years, Panic! at the Disco, Fetty Wap, Chvrches and Craig David, to name a few.  It’s on from 28-29 May, hopefully the weather will have improved by then, it’s freezing outside today and raining.

Teignmouth is also playing a part in this event by hosting a number of workshops in the newly refurbished Pavillions building in town.  There are a number of sessions where you can have the chance to find out what it’s like to work in radio and also have the opportunity to question people like Annie Mac and Charlie Sloth.  Check out the details at https://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/radio1bigweekend

Teignmouth isn’t the sleepy seaside town you thought it was after all!
